The One and Only - Cillian Murphy

 He gained international acclaim as a widely known movie star, known for his talent and dedication to his craft, while also staying humble. Cillian Murphy has established himself as one of the most fascinating performers of his age, with a unique presence distinguished by piercing blue eyes and an inherent ability to immerse himself in various roles. 

 

Murphy's journey into the world of acting begins with a childhood love of the arts, which he developed at Presentation Brothers College in Cork. Despite first studying law at University College Cork, the attraction of the theatre proved overwhelming. Refocusing his efforts, he travelled to London's Drama Centre to master his art, a choice that paved the way for his incredible career. Cillian Murphy's breakout performance in Enda Walsh's play Disco Pigs came in 1996. He, an army veteran who has become the commander of the criminal organisation Peaky Blinders. His job is all pragmatism: he manipulates and calculates in a stoic manner. But he is troubled, both by what he witnessed during the war and by his deep and enduring love for his late wife Grace. Murphy has been praised for this role several times, even by other fellow actors such as Margot Robbie, the actress behind Barbie, who reveals that she's a big fan of the show, as she claims that “There are the people who are obsessed with Peaky Blinders, and then there’s the people who haven’t seen Peaky Blinders.” His portrayal of Thomas Shelby in the highly acclaimed series Peaky Blinders demonstrated his abilities to lead a production with charisma and nuance. The success of the programme not only increased Murphy's star power, but also cemented his image as a versatile actor capable of dominating both the large and small screens. 

 

Having previously worked with an award-winning Christopher Nolan, 2023 brought both Cillian and Christopher a massive success with Oppenheimer, where Cillian gives one of the most haunting performances ever. “Cillian is one of the greatest actors of this generation.” says Nolan, who’s known Murphy and worked with him for over 20 years, and is not in the least surprised by the amount of people who went to see the film. The best testimony of that is the number of Golden Globes the film received, with Cillian being awarded the best male actor one.
